Welcome home to Granny Mouse

Granny Mouse Country House has always been a particularly special place for me. It is really like a homecoming experience when I visit. If the homecoming experience can be defined by healthy mischief, lots of laughter, fun smashed with relaxation and comfort.

Whether I want to indulge in a drive in the Midlands and a lovely tea, or pop out with friends, or have a comfortable luxurious stay over to spoil myself, I know that I will be welcomed with a big smile and treated like a VIP guest.

Recently I received an ‘e-pos’ to invite me to the relaunch of The Conservatory and The Bistro and was absolutely ecstatic to respond that I could attend. Anyway, everyone knows that Granny Mouse takes care of their #GMFamily so well.

I have been watching the renovations and changes with much interest across Granny Mouse social media channels and was not disappointed when I arrived to see it in real life.

I had asked prior to visiting what my audience most wanted to see at Granny Mouse and the general consensus was the renovated areas. So I have been sure to include that, along with the other things they do so well.

Granny Mouse Dining

The Eaves

It is the first time I have been up at the Eaves. I know, shame on me! But I think it was well worth the wait.

The Chapel has a beautiful view out into the valley below and is a lovely space that can be booked for private events.

I arrived at the last minute (there are lots of windy corners in the Midlands and plenty of farm lorries on them too), and was greeted with champagne and little works of art disguised as food.

On catching up with people in the gathered group (and meeting some for the first time), I found my hand reaching for a gin from the local Charcoal & Smith brewery. I was surprised to find out that this refreshing adult beverage is home grown right here on the Midlands. In fact, just a short stretch up the road.

Rose darling, almost always the rose. The gin that is.

Not to mention a quick pic in the VIP Lounge. Lounging in the (white) lounge was a strange feeling for me. I am usually the one behind the camera, not in it’s focus. But I must say, I think I could get used to it 🙂

The Conservatory

The star of the show.

The newly built Conservatory does not disappoint. This is an extension of The Bistro area that links though to the revamped bar. This leads on to the new deck with glass and wood making the swimming pool area both a viewing deck above the treeline and place to relax and have a drink, sunbathe or swim.

During the day the Conservatory becomes an airy, light space welcoming natures greenery and the bluest of skies into the building while remaining a protected, beautiful place to enjoy your meal.

At night, you feel as if you are dining under the inky sky and sparkling milky way. It lends a romantic ambience to the modern room, while you are kept warm by a glowing fireplace.

It is a super trendy spot by day and a cosy romantic place by night where your food is enhanced by the seamless reflection of natural beauty around Granny Mouse.

The Bistro

Granny Mouse family will barely recognise The Bistro after it’s renovations.

This space is light, bright and warm with wooden decor as wallpaper and fresh greens toning in with the surrounding natural elements.

It has the feel of a modern space without feeling cold. It radiates an inherent welcome and warmth; which is apt, considering that is what Granny Mouse does so well.

The food remains tongue zingingly delicious of course (when have you ever known of GM to do anything by half degrees?). Granny Mouse does aim to please and always seems to succeed with the change of their seasonal menu at The Bistro.

Room Options

There are a few options for rooms when you are staying at Granny Mouse. All comfortable. All luxurious. All beautifully appointed.

I was fortunate to stay in the Deluxe Suite and have to say that my favourite thing was … everything. It is a serious business of having to choose one thing! I think the one idea that strikes me here is that the rooms are luxurious, but they are super comfortable.

They are not ostentatious and cold, but welcoming and plush. You kind of want to snuggle inside and take in the sumptuous views from the patio and window bays.

For me, I guess that is what this home away from home represents for me. A place that shines the spotlight on its surrounds and its guests and makes them radiate in that light.

The different room options available are:

What a good location for conferencing. What an efficient team to do all the hard work and make you look good 🙂

Granny Mouse offers three different conferencing packages. A day package and two stay over packages.

These include meals and teas, as well as use of the equipment while the conference is underway.

Granny Mouse engages really well with their guests. If you go and check their reviews you will notice that friendliness is mentioned regularly, and for good reason. Whether you are getting married here, having a conference, staying over or having a cup of the coffee; the treatment is the same… outstandingly friendly.

Events are catered to guests needs here but there are some regular packages that you can book.

What was my event? You may have heard about a recent hot air balloon launch in the Midlands? I was treated to an exceptional experience of hot air ballooning from the field alongside the river below Granny Mouse.

I set off with a with frozen fingers early morning and felt a little like Mary Poppins lifting seamlessly into the sky. The people with me chatted away excitedly as my heart beat faster than usual.

I was surprised that the balloon delivers such a stable ride (no weird weightlessness like aeroplanes and therefore no motion sickness). I thought I would be scared looking down at the landscape, but found only that I was fascinated. It is quite surreal hearing the dogs barking at your shadow below, desperately trying to tell their owners that there is something up in the sky that shouldn’t be there.

It is quiet. Pin drop silence quiet. Which is so otherworldly. I am so accustomed to hearing background noise all the time that it has become the new silence. Up in the air, the only noise breaking the silence is the occasional blast of heated air into the balloon.

Our landing was surprisingly gentle. We had been briefed about what positions to take as landing took place and the potential that the basket may tip. We literally touched down, lifted and landed. It was seamless and well handled by our Pilot.

This of course was all toasted with champagne, mimosas and certificates. If you would like to find out more about this experience, visit their website.

The Spa at Granny Mouse is well known around the country. It has built a superb reputation over the years. It is located in the lush gardens at Granny Mouse and is a helpful way to de-stress while you visit. Or even to just spoil yourself before you go and enjoy a delectable meal.

Granny Mouse is a popular wedding venue on the Midlands and hosts a couple of romantic packages for their eager betrothed couples.

There is an Emerald and Ruby package in place where you have different sets of options. Send a mail to banqueting@grannymouse.co.za for further details.

So, how is Granny Mouse looking? Absolutely exquisite darling! But at the same time, it is still like coming a home. A place where I feel comfortable, relaxed and secure.

There isn’t much more a girl could ask for a breakaway. Well, maybe a mimosa in her hand at the same time… 🙂

Until then… See you on the road!
