#TravelTuesday Guest Blog
I am often on the scout for new blogs to read on different topics. I find most bloggers refreshing in that they are not scared to share an opinion and this often brings a whole range of different ideas and impressions to their writing.
I also get asked where to find bloggers to follow, so I have decided to try and feature some in the attempt to introduce people to different influences.
This weeks blogger is: Siobhan from Sugar & Spice
Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Siobhan from the blog Sugar & Spice. I’m born and raised in KwaZulu Natal, and I live in Waterfall, a small suburb of the Upper Highway in Durban.
What made you want to start blogging and how long have you been doing it?
I had always read other blogs and loved them, but it was actually a push from some friends that made me start my own blog. I was always being asked for advice – what restaurants were good, where to go for great cocktails, what to use for dry skin, what foundation I would suggest for all day wear. My friends said I always had great recommendations and I loved to write, so I should start my own blog. I did, and fell in love with blogging. I love being able to share my opinions with people, and spread the news on great places and products!
What does your blog focus on?
My blog initially started as solely beauty-focused. However, I’ve always loved travelling, and loved eating out. Very quickly, I branched out and added a lifestyle element to my blog. That way I could include my love of travel, food and entertainment. I love to cook and bake as well, so I include recipes every now and then, and plan on making it a monthly thing now on the blog! I love to travel overseas, but finding amazing places locally has become such a passion of mine.
What tips can you give people to grow their blog audience?
Hard work and consistency. I’ve seen so much controversy surrounding the ‘buying followers’ issue at the moment. It irritates me that it’s taken me 3 years to grow organically, and people are trying to jump the steps to get to the top without putting in the sweat and tears that others are doing. I just really hope that brands and PR companies wise-up to this.
I myself battle with consistently posting – I am trying to make 2018 my year of getting posts up on set days a week, every week. However, I work a regular day job and am studying part time, as well as working part time as a makeup artist, so the struggle of doing this is so real!
Where can people find you? Website and Social media?
You can find my blog at https://sugarspiceblog.co.za/ My social media tags are all @sugarspiceblog2 and my YouTube channel is under my name – Siobhan Yeatman.
What exciting project do you have in the pipeline for your blog?
I’m determined to make 2018 my year that I get my YouTube channel up and running. I’ve done two videos so far – one on my channel with my blogger buddy Camilla from Jane Wonder, and one on her channel – but I’d like to do video reviews, tutorials and start vlogging as well!
What is the funniest experience you have had with your blog?
When my friend Camilla and I filmed my first video for my YouTube channel – we did a ‘no mirror makeup challenge’ and we had to do a full face of makeup with no mirror at all. We decided we needed wine to give us some confidence in front of the camera the first time, but we only decided this halfway through filming. We had to run out to the bottle store with half a face of very poorly done makeup. It was hilarious!
