#TravelTuesday Guest Blog

I am often on the scout for new blogs to read on different topics. I find most bloggers refreshing in that they are not scared to share an opinion and this often brings a whole range of different ideas and impressions to their writing.

I also get asked where to find bloggers to follow, so I have decided to try and feature some in the Travel Tuesday series in the attempt to introduce people to different influences.

This weeks blogger is: Amanda Klaas from Yellow Orchid Child

  1. Who are you and where are you from?

I am Amanda Klaas, originally from Kwa-Zulu Natal but have been in Port Elizabeth long enough to call it home. I am currently doing my 3rd year in Media Communication & Culture at Nelson Mandela University.

  1. What made you want to start blogging and how long have you been doing it

I started blogging in 2016 as a means to share my voice and interests with those who may relate. My blog has a strong motivational/poetic section, which is quite close to my heart as at some stage of my life poetry was a means to get me through whatever rough patch I was going through at the time.

I believe that is the most important part of blogging, aside from the most beautiful pictures, one must be able to influence or inspire others on a more grander scale.

Bloggers (me included) sometimes don’t fully understand how much they actually influence other’s lives and it is extremely important to use that influence to impact someone’s life in a positive way.

  1. What does your blog focus on?

Yellow Orchid Child is a unique poetic/motivational and lifestyle blog that focuses mainly on sharing life experiences through fashion, food & beauty.

  1. What tips can you give people to grow their blog audience?

Be unapologetically authentic. People are more interested in genuine and heartfelt pieces, even if it’s a fashion piece that little personal touch makes all the difference. People sense ‘fakeness’ and/or when you’re saying something just to impress them – don’t do it.

Another tip would be, don’t be afraid of sharing your blog url across all your social media platforms. I know sometimes you don’t want to seem like you’re annoying or you’re spamming people, but there’s no easier way to grow your audience than sharing your blog url.

  1. What exciting project do you have in the pipeline for your blog?

I have recently started a #YellowWoreWhat series on the blog which I am working on collaborating with clothing and accessory brands.

  1. What is the funniest experience you have had with your blog?

Off the top of my head I cannot necessarily think of the funniest experience, but I can say that ( and I’m sure a few bloggers can attest to this) at some events when you’re trying to either get pictures or video footage a lot of the other guests mistake you for the official photographer for that specific event.
